QUEENSLAND STATE OF ORIGIN TEAM : After a flawless build-up almost high-jacked by a last minute stomach bug, the Maroons triumphed once again despite the efforts of various game officials who did their best to send the series into a decider. The players deserve enormous credit for soldiering on with a range of injuries, but the system developed by Mal Meninga and his helpers over the last four years also deserves high praise. With many still in their mid-twenties, who knows how many series wins this squad can achieve in the next few years?
MICHAEL VOSS : The rookie Brisbane Lions coach is a breath of fresh air on the AFL scene, expecting high standards from his players and not afraid to criticise them when necessary. The team is responding to his approach and are definitely becoming top four contenders with veterans Brown, Power, and Bradshaw leading the way and youngsters like Daniel Rich getting better every game - a good mix of experience and youth.
WINNERS AND LOSERS: There are so many losers at the moment that there is no room for winners. Loser candidates include Brad Fittler and several of his Roosters squad for alcohol related incidents, Barry Hall for a lack of self-discipline to put it mildly, and Peter de Villiers - the Springboks coach who appears to condone eye-gouging by his players! Take your pick.....
